The North Face has opened a new flagship store at 511 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. Spanning two floors and 2,000 square meters, it is the brand’s largest store worldwide, featuring a layout that blends physical and digital concepts.
Upon entering, customers are greeted by a two-and-a-half-story LED screen wrapping around the walls and ceiling, showcasing expeditions captured by athletes – a larger-than-life version of the installation found in the store opened in 2016 across the street.
The ground floor features a “below the treeline” environment, with gray cork-panel walls engraved with climbing routes that have marked the history of mountaineering. Materials from The North Face tents form lantern-like installations highlighting product innovations and archival pieces from the brand.
The second floor shifts to an “above the treeline” aesthetic, with lighter finishes and exposed terrazzo designed to “evoke alpine terrain.” Experiential installations inspired by cairns, set on stone bases, showcase product innovations, while a fitting-room lounge connects the brand to the city. The flagship also includes a dedicated space for TNF’s Summit Series line.
“Pushing the boundaries for those who live and breathe the outdoors is at the heart of our philosophy at The North Face, and our Fifth Avenue flagship is a powerful example of the direction we’re taking as a hub for exploration,” said Dennis Seydel, chief marketing officer of The North Face. “From marketing to retail, and now with our new Power of Nature platform, we’re creating immersive experiences that stir emotion, celebrate the brand’s heritage, and bring the spirit of outdoor adventure to the heart of Manhattan.”
